Everton have only won once away from home this season and 5 times since the start of last season (August 2016), yet anywhere we’re playing the away end always seems to be full, without fail. Without the fans this club would be in even more trouble than it already is. A short trip up to Turf Moor to play a Burnley team without a win in 12 meant playing Everton was the perfect opportunity for them to end that unwanted stint.
For the first time in a long time I was surprisingly happy with the team selection. A rare start for Tosun alongside Calvert-Lewin meant we were actually starting a game of football with 2 strikers on the field. Coleman came back in for Kenny who’s looked worried at full back for the past few weeks. Baines was on the bench but didn’t start.
We began the first half quite well in all fairness and created a lot of chances (a few more than last week) but it was taking those chances that was the problem. Walcott blazed over from about 3 yards where it seemed easier to score than miss and he again missed a few more chances.
The deadlock was broken after 20 minutes when Cenk Tosun scored his first goal for Everton as he powered a header past Pope to make it 1-0. Couldn’t believe it. That’s what happens when you give him a chance init you fat bisto pie head. Tosun nearly doubled his tally 2 minutes later when Walcott broke up the field, picked out Tosun but his stepover and shot was held by the keeper. Pope made another good save from a Walcott effort, after being teed up by Tosun.
On the half hour mark, Pickford showed us exactly why he should be England’s number 1 when he produced a sensational save from an Ashley Barnes header from 3 yards out. He also showed us how much more in the shit we’d be without him. What a player. Feel sorry for the lad cos he’s got a shit defence in front of him. Ashley fucking Williams.
Half time, 1-0 but you just knew we’d regret missing them golden chances. An avid reminder that Burnley have never come from behind to win in the premier league so we all knew what was going to happen.
We started the second half exactly like we’ve been playing for the past 2 years away from home; shite. It didn’t take long for that inevitable equaliser, 10 minutes to be precise. It all came from a shithouse attempt from Calvert-Lewin as their centre half easily nicked the ball off him, took him on and a lovely pass from Lowton, leaving Keane’s head in the team bus found its way to Barnes who walloped it past Pickford at his near post. That was it then wasn’t it? We were on the back foot and there was only one outcome from this game; us getting beat again.
Rooney replaced Davies on the hour and then on 68 minutes Tosun was taken off and the away end turned absolutely toxic, and understandably so. Tosun’s been slated by his own manager for not being able to settle in for weeks but he’s just scored his first goal, he’s feeding off scraps and he’s still looking threatening yet he’s being taken off for the worst technical footballer I’ve ever seen. How does that make him feel? Fuck off Allardyce, and that was the chant from the away end.
Sigurðsson was inches away from giving us the lead on 78 minutes when he blazed a shot-come-cross agonisingly wide of the post, with Walcott or Niasse not being able to connect. Sickening.
And then 2 minutes later, Everton Football Club was summed up perfectly. A corner was swung in and Chris Wood, who barely ever scores, rose above our 2 centre halves and powered a header past a static Pickford, who in my opinion should’ve come for the cross and either caught or punched it. I can’t blame him for the defeat because he made some unbelievable saves and he’ll learn from mistakes like that.
2-1 down with 10 minutes to go and we still never pressed for a winner. The only pressure we put on Burnley was floating cross after cross into the box that me nan would’ve caught.
Ashley Williams was given his marching orders at the end of the game when he elbowed someone in the face from our own free kick hahahaha. That finished me off so off we went, back down the M56, after suffering another defeat away from home. No game plan, no plan B, no fight, no passion. Shite. The only positives was Tosun scoring and Williams earning himself a 3 match ban. Fuck off Allardyce
People ask my why I bother going and I sometimes ask myself but what else would I do without Everton? I hate us but I love us. I’ll follow Everton wherever they go because the fans are the only thing this club has got. None of the players know what it’s like and none of the management team even give a shit about us. The fans are running this club, especially on the road. We must be fuckin mad but we’re Everton aren’t we?
