After a drawn out process, it has now been officially confirmed that Wayne Rooney has departed Goodison this summer for a move to the MLS with D.C United. It was widely reported before Brands and Silva came to Everton that Rooney was seeking a move away and it was the manager who allegedly pushed Rooney towards the end of his Goodison career.
The deal that has seemed to last the whole summer was destined to come to its climax eventually and Rooney will not be an Everton player next season. Rooney returned to Everton as part of the Romelu Lukaku deal from Manchester United but in a turbulent time for the Toffees, Wayne’s return wasn’t exactly smooth-sailing.
Rooney registered 11 goals and 2 assists but struggled to keep up to the pace of the 2017/18 season.
All the best in the future, Wayne!
