49 Everton had dominated the first half without scoring but it didn’t take them long to put it right in the second half. Dewsbury Hall was again at the heart of Evertons attack and he slipped in Tyrique George for an effort at goal that squirmed under the keeper and fell invitingly for Thierno Barry to again score against Newcastle and put Everton into a well deserved lead. The blues for once survived the obligatory VAR check much to the amazement of most Blues fans used to seeing our goals ruled out once they are scrutinised by VAR.

72 Everton had a strong appeal for a penalty when Schar seemingly kicked through Barry’s leg to win the ball, The replays confirmed the defender seemed to kick Barry first on the back of his leg before making contact with the ball but VAR wasn’t interested.

98 Ramsey then inexplicably went in late on Harrison Armstrong and picked up a second yellow that could easily have been a straight red but regardless he was to be sent off.
99 The last real action saw Brennan Johnson and Fabian Schar go into the book before the referee brought an end to the game and signal a second Everton victory over Newcastle in just a few days and see the blues get back to winning ways in the league to pick up our first away win of the season and the 3rd straight win at St James park. The win lifted us nicely into 7th place ahead of Fridays home game against Coventry City and the return to Everton of Frank Lampard
