Crellin’s Penalty Heroics Set Up Anfield Clash! Okoronkwo Makes History!

It’s been a busy week for Everton’s loan stars, with plenty in FA Cup action during a double game-week. Here’s how the lads got on.

League Two:

Billy Crellin- Accrington Stanley- 20th out of 24

Crellin endured a week of mixed fortunes, as Accrington went from FA Cup elation to an away day drubbing in a matter of days.

The goalkeeper was the hero at the weekend, as the Reds beat Swindon Town to book their place in the third round.

Crellin was in fine form, saving Harry Smith’s penalty in normal time, before denying the visitors from the spot twice more in the shootout.

The 24-year-old’s heroics sets up a mouth-watering clash against Liverpool at Anfield in January.

John Doolan’s side failed to emulate the performance in the league, however, losing 5-2 away to Grimsby Town.

Accrington host Bromley on Saturday.

Jenson Metcalfe- Chesterfield- 9th out of 24

Metcalfe remains sidelined with a heel injury, with the midfielder proving to be a huge miss for Paul Cook’s team.

The Spireites have lost four of the five games the loanee has been ruled out of, dropping out of the play-off places in the process.

Chesterfield travel to Merseyside on Saturday, looking to reignite their season at a struggling Tranmere Rovers.

Francis Okoronkwo- Salford City- 11th out of 24

Okoronkwo scored his third goal for Salford in their FA Cup win over Cheltenham Town, netting a close-range rebound after his initial shot was well saved by Joe Day.

The forward’s instinctive strike helped create history for the Ammies, firing them into the third round for the first time in their history, where they will meet Manchester City.

Okoronkwo was absent from a 2-0 win against Harrogate Town in midweek.

Salford are away to Gillingham next.

League One:

Tyler Onyango- Stockport County- 5th out of 24

Onyango continued his spell on the sidelines, missing the Hatters’ FA Cup victory against Brackley Town and a crushing defeat at Birmingham City.

Wednesday night’s loss to the Blues sees Dave Challinor’s side lose ground in the race for promotion, falling seven points adrift of the automatic slots.

Stockport host Exeter City on Saturday looking to close the gap.

Harry Tyrer- Blackpool- 12th out of 24

Like Blackpool, Tyrer found himself in inconsistent form during the week, as the Seasiders bowed out of the cup to Birmingham City, before bouncing back with a vital 2-1 win at Shrewsbury Town.

The goalkeeper was culpable for at least two goals, however, first parrying a long-range effort straight to the feet of former Everton striker Lukas Jutkiewicz, and then being beaten by a Mal Benning free-kick from inside the Shrewsbury half.

Blackpool welcome Rotherham to Bloomfield Road next.

Championship:

Mason Holgate- West Bromwich Albion- 7th out of 24

Holgate continued his unbeaten start at the Baggies, with a 1-1 draw away to Preston North End in his seventh successive appearance.

Carlos Corberan’s side are on a strange run of form, drawing nine of their last ten games, however the defender has impressed those at the Hawthorns with solid performances.

West Brom travel to league leaders Sheffield United on Sunday.

Scottish Premiership:

Elijah Campbell- Ross County- 8th out of 12

Campbell endured a tough afternoon at Celtic Park, as Ross County fell to a 5-0 defeat to the champions.

The defender played the full 90 minutes, despite being five down by half-time.

County face another difficult game next, as they host Rangers on Sunday.

Ligue 1:

Neal Maupay- Marseille- 2nd out of 18

Maupay registered a third assist in two games, laying on Luis Henrique’s 53rd minute strike in a crucial 2-1 home win over Monaco.

Victory for Marseille sees them leapfrog the visitors, with St. Ettiene away to come next.

Challenger Pro League:

Reece Welch- Deinze- 10th out of 16

Welch was again absent from the matchday squad, with Everton likely to recall the defender in January.
