Everton Women suffered a heavy 7-0 defeat at Leigh Sports Village, as they faced Manchester United in the group stage of the Continental Cup.
Brian Sørensen made five changes to the starting lineup from last Sunday’s draw with Tottenham due to ongoing illness and injuries to the team, including giving Aurora Galli the captains armband in place of Megan Finnigan.
Nikita Parris and Rachel Williams scored a goal a piece in rapid succession to give Marc Skinner’s team a halftime lead, quickly nullifying a very competitive first twenty-five minutes.
Manchester United were allowed to capitalise further on their advantage and extend their lead in the second half. Everton Women were temporarily two players down through injury, and United saw their opportunity and took it. A corner was played short and then passed into the area for Hayley Ladd to sneak in beyond Emily Ramsey.
Former Blue, Nikita Parris was at the centre of the action once more getting a second in the 69th minute. Nine minutes later, Nikita Parris finished her hat-trick by putting away an across goal from Ella Toone. On the 84th minute, substitute Geyse added a sixth. Leah Galton’s goal on 88 minutes was United’s seventh.
Everton Women are back in action in the Continental Cup on the 13th of December for another Merseyside Derby in the group stage. Kick off at Walton Hall Park is at 7pm.
