REPORT | EVERTON WOMEN 1-4 ARSENAL WOMEN

The Blues fell to a 4-1 defeat against Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Everton looked to be the more dominant side in the opening 25 minutes, they kept Arsenal quiet and were dominant in possession.

However, the visitors made a breakthrough after 29 minutes. Caitlin Foord was assisted by Noelle Maritz, and her first-time attempt hit the far post and went in to give Arsenal the lead.

Arsenal doubled their lead just 4 minutes later as Ireland international, Katie McCabe, struck from distance. Her shot settled in the bottom right corner of the net, flying past Emily Ramsey.

On the 39th minute, Arsenal scored their third goal. Stina Blackstenius’ header was successfully blocked by Emily Ramsey at full stretch, but Caitlin Foord was there to head in the rebound along the left side.

Just before half time, Everton went 4-0 down. England international, Lotte Wubben-Moy sent her header into the back of the Toffee’s net in the 42nd minute.

When Aggie Beever-Jones received a straight red for a challenge on Lia Walti, Everton’s task did not become any simpler. A yellow card was initially issued to the Everton forward, but it was later increased because the Arsenal midfielder, Lia Wälti, was unable to continue.

Despite being down to 10 players, the Blue’s reduced the deficit through this season’s top goalscorer, Katja Snoeijs. The Dutch international headed home a cross from an Elise Stenevik corner to get a goal back for the Toffee’s.

Wishing Lia Wälti all the best with her recovery and hope that we see her back on the pitch as soon as possible!
