PLAYER OF THE MONTH – APRIL 2025

Toffee Blues Player of the Month April 2025

Five games later and the month of April is complete as Everton wind down their ’24-’25 Premier League Campaign. One win, one loss, three draws, and 22 votes later, this is your Toffee Blues Player of the Month for April.

4th Place – Pickford (1 Vote)

Despite only getting the one vote this month, it is hard to argue that Pickford should ever be left off of a Player of the Month list. The model of consistency, Pickford has kept 10 clean sheets and saved both penalties he has faced this season. He has put in a couple of fantastic showings in the month of April as well, including a defiant clean sheet against Champions League chasing Nottingham Forest away from home.

He has a fantastic 71.1% save percentage this season, and has out performed his expected goals by a goal and a half, making some truly outrageous saves in goal. A fan favorite will be the save that ended up not counting against Arsenal, however outrageous it was in the end. He has been monstrous for the blues this season, and there is no reason to think he won’t be for years to come. Jordan Pickford receives the lsat vote for April’s Toffee Blues Player of the Month.

3rd Place -Tarkowski (2 Votes)

Securing a pair of votes, the other half of Everton’s central defense finds himself third in this month’s Player of the Month voting. Before going down with injury just after halftime in the Manchester City match, he had of course started and played a full 90 in every match this month. One of the best in the league at simply being available, Tarkowski has proved one of the best signings Everton has made in years.

He has won his battles at supreme rates all season, 75% in the air and 68% on the ground. He registered two 7.6 performances in a row against Forest and Manchester City, but FotMob has only graded him below a 7.0 twice in the last ten matches. It is no coincidence seeing a touch of confidence leave the side without him in it, as he brings a level of quiet confidence and firm leadership to the side that it desperately needs. The second half of what has been a highly successful defensive partnership, Tarkowski finds himself in a well deserved spot on the list for April.

2nd Place – Branthwaite (9 Votes)

Nearly missing out, securing only one vote less, is a consistent guest on the Toffee Blues Player of the Month. Jarrad Branthwaite has been excellent this campaign once again, and despite maybe a touch of a down month from the young defender, he has still been consistently one of Everton’s best on the pitch.

His best performances, stalwart showings against Forest and Chelsea, showed him at his very best. He has won 65% of his duels and 58% of his aerial duels this season, and has been near impossible to drag out of position or fluster. The backline as a whole took a small step backwards with the injury of James Tarkowski, but a center back pairing of Branthwaite and O’Brien does show a lot of promise with the right pieces around them. He started and played a full 90 every match this month, no surprise, Branthwaite has once again nearly won Player of the Month.

1st Place – Gana Gueye  (10 Votes)

In first place, and perhaps long overdue, is Idrissa Gana Gueye, locking 10 votes and securing the Toffee Blues Player of the Month. At nearly 36 years of age, Gueye has not shown any signs of slowing down throughout this campaign and has, in fact, seemingly played better as the campaign has gone on.

He started all 5 matches in the month of April, and played the full 90 minutes un every match except against Manchester City, where he played nearly 80. He has been successful this season doing what he does best, winning tackles. According to OptaPlay, the midfielder has made more tackles than anyone in Europe’s top 5 leagues. He has started 32 of 34 this campaign, and has made availability one of his greatest attributes. He has been a game changer in the midfielder, and after a couple of titanic performances against the likes of Nottingham Forest and Manchester City, he is a well deserved winner for April.
