Everton extended their unbeaten run against Liverpool in the WSL to seven matches with a 2–0 win at Anfield, completing the league double over their Merseyside rivals.
Katja Snoeijs opened the scoring inside seven minutes, finishing clinically from Kelly Gago’s cut-back after a positive start from the visitors.
Karen Holmgaard added a second midway through the second half, turning home substitute Toni Payne’s low cross to seal a significant away win for the Blues.
Everton carved out the first real chance of the afternoon when Snoeijs dragged a shot wide from 20 yards. But she made no mistake with her second opportunity, meeting Gago’s delivery and slotting the ball into the bottom-left corner.
Brian Sørensen’s side maintained their early momentum. Gago nearly found herself in a promising position, only for Jenna Clark to make a crucial intervention, disrupting her attempt to collect Justine Vanhaevermaet’s through ball.
Liverpool gradually grew into the contest. Sophie Roman Hauge’s header was comfortably gathered by Courtney Brosnan while Elise Stenevik made a vital sliding challenge to halt another attack.
Taylor Hinds came closest for the hosts before the break, striking the bar with a powerful effort that Brosnan did well to tip onto the woodwork.
The Reds started the second half with purpose, with two early chances falling to Olivia Smith. Her first effort drifted wide of the left post, and her second was smothered by Brosnan before the Canadian could strike inside the area.
In what was a player-of-the-match performance, Brosnan produced another superb save in the 54th minute, parrying Marie Höbinger’s close-range shot before Honoka Hayashi could pounce on the rebound. She was called into action again minutes later, denying another powerful effort from Höbinger at point-blank range.
Despite Liverpool’s pressure, Everton extended their lead against the run of play. Payne fizzed a ball across goal, which K. Holmgaard poked home at the back post.
The Blues were forced to see out a tense final spell after Sara Holmgaard was dismissed for a second yellow card. With seven minutes of added time, Liverpool pressed hard. Grace Fisk’s shot was blocked by Stenevik, and Smith curled another attempt just wide.
Everton, however, held firm to secure the clean sheet and a deserved win, ending their away campaign with three points and local bragging rights.
They now turn their attention to the final day of the season, hosting Tottenham at Walton Hall Park.
