League Two:
Billy Crellin- Accrington Stanley- 21st out of 24
Crellin established himself as first choice for The Reds shortly after arriving at the club, with the goalkeeper producing heroics on several occasions to ensure John Doolan’s side remained in the Football League.
Despite Accrington being haunted by the threat of relegation for most of the season, the 24-year-old managed to keep an impressive 13 clean sheets in 38 matches.
Crellin’s consistent form wasn’t deemed enough to remain an Everton player, though, and the stopper left The Toffees upon the expiry of his contract this month.
Jenson Metcalfe- Chesterfield- 7th out of 24
Metcalfe enjoyed a stellar campaign, with the midfielder proving a key figure as Chesterfield made an unlikely push for promotion.
The 20-year-old’s maiden season in men’s football bore 31 appearances, one goal, and a late run into the play-off spots, where The Spireites bowed out to Walsall in the semi finals.
With one year left on his Everton contract, the academy graduate will be hoping to build on an excellent first year in league football.
Francis Okoronkwo- Salford City- 8th out of 24
Salford dropped out of the play-off spots on the final day in a topsy-turvy season, of which the Everton loanee was missing for large parts of after an injury-ridden campaign.
Despite flashes of brilliance, Okoronkwo ended his first senior loan with four goals in 24 games, with the forward absent for the last nine fixtures as The Ammies fell short of a top seven finish.
League One:
Harry Tyrer- Blackpool- 9th out of 24
Tyrer experienced a loan spell of mixed fortunes, as the goalkeeper kept 13 clean sheets in 42 appearances for Blackpool whilst also making several high-profile mistakes.
The 23-year-old made the jump up two divisions from his last loan in joining The Tangerines, initially adapting well given the step up in quality, however error-strewn performances cast doubt over his place in the team before Christmas.
The ‘keeper eventually re-established himself as Blackpool’s number one, and currently heads into next season in pole position to be Everton’s back up choice following the departures of Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic.
Tyler Onyango- Stockport County- 3rd out of 24
Onyango made ten appearances for The Hatters before returning to Finch Farm after picking up a hamstring injury in November.
The midfielder’s contract expires this month, with an extension seemingly unlikely.
Championship:
Mason Holgate- West Bromwich Albion- 9th out of 24
Holgate endured a difficult season at The Hawthorns, with the defender failing to hold down his place at centre-half, eventually ending his second Baggies spell as a substitute.
The Jamaican international is now set for a fresh start, with Everton and West Brom both cutting ties with the 28-year-old.
Harrison Armstrong- Derby County- 19th out of 24
Armstrong’s breakthrough year finished with aplomb, after a fantastic six-month loan at struggling Derby County saw the midfielder receive rave reviews from Rams fans.
The 18-year-old, who made six appearances for The Toffees this season, started each of Derby’s last 12 games- losing just three- as the loanee helped inspire the relegation-threatened side to last-day survival.
Armstrong signed a three-year deal with Everton before going out on loan, and returns to pre-season with exciting expectations after an excellent debut campaign.
Scottish Premiership:
Elijah Campbell- Ross County- 11th out of 12
Campbell’s impressive displays earned him a new contract offer with The Blues, despite tasting relegation with Ross County following their play-off collapse against Livingston.
The defender spent much of his time in Scotland at left-back, playing 31 times in a difficult season for Don Cowie’s side.
Campbell has gone onto sign a new 2 year contract with Everton and a fresh loan this season looks likely
Ligue 1:
Neal Maupay- Marseille- 2nd out of 18
Maupay’s poor form continued at Marseille, with the striker netting just four times in 24 games as the French giants failed to compete for silverware.
Given the 28-year-old’s lack of goals and questionable attitude, an uncertain future lies ahead for the ex-Brentford star.
Northern Premier League:
Bradley Moonan- Prescot Cables- 10th out of 22
Moonan’s first step-up into senior football proved a valuable experience, with the defender dropping in and out of the side as Cables ended the season in style.
The 18-year-old appeared eight times for Ste Daley’s side, scoring once in a 2-0 win over Guiseley.
Challenger Pro League:
Reece Welch- Deinze- N/A
Welch endured a torrid time at Deinze, as the club’s disastrous start to the season wound up in bankruptcy, with the team sadly ceasing to exist.
The defender returned to Everton after a frustrating loan in which the 21-year-old only featured thrice, before winding out the campaign for the u23’s.
Welch was an unused substitute against Newcastle United in May, and has one year remaining on his current deal.
